What is Autoblogging?
Over the past several months autoblogging has become a very hot topic. Basically autoblogging involves setting up one or multiple blogs that build their own content on an automatic basis. They are set it and forget it! Well, this works to a certain degree. For the most part, you still need to check back on a periodic basis to check on the blog(s) to make sure they are still functioning as planned.
The advantage of autoblogs is that once you set them up you can just sit back and wait for the money to roll in. Just monetize the blogs, add great content and with a bit of luck lots of people will check back often, buy your products and you can make a small income on each blog. Put together a whole bunch of blogs and you can make a pretty decent living on autopilot.
That being said there are a couple of things you need to do and several plug-ins you need to use to make this work.
Here is a brief five (5) step list:
Setting Up Your AutoBlog
For the purpose of this post I am going to assume that you have already decided upon a niche or niches to use for your autoblog. You’ve registered your domains, setup hosting and installed you WordPress blog. (Note: I personally prefer WordPress but this can also be done with Blogger etc.)
- Designing Your Autoblog: One suggestion I would make, if you want to make this somewhat painless, is to create your first autoblog with all of the features, plug-ins, themes etc that you want and then clone it for use on all future autoblogs. Then whenever you want to create another blog you can just use that clone (duplicate of your original blog) and at least not have to install all of the plug-ins etc all over again. This can be a real time saver. I personally use an application called WPTwin. It’s easy to install and setup. You can then not only use the clone for all of your other blogs (just change the theme to match the new niche) but also it protects you should your blog get hacked or corrupted. Trust me….this does happen. It happened to me with my blog, The Fitness Mega Shop., just yesterday. Recreating it took minutes rather than hours thanks to this application.
Adding Content to Your Autoblog: The next step in creating an autoblog is probably the most important. If you just create an autoblog with sales stuff the interest for most potential customers will be limited. However, provide interesting content that suits their needs in a specific niche and they will return often and hopefully purchase your product(s). This process can be made automatic or semi-automatic depending upon your needs. I personally use two different applications, one is a desktop app and the other is a WordPress plug-in. The first is Autoblog Samurai. Forget the fact that the name is a bit goofy. As a product it does what it claims to do…and that is very unusual in this market. Basically you add blogs to a desktop administration screen Once the blog is added you can then schedule to add RSS feeds, ArticleBase articles, Clickbank and Amazon products or post them immediately. It’s simple to install and easy to use. The second product is Total Traffic Annihilation. Another kind of weird name for a product that actually works automatically and does a great job. This product is a plug-in. You create campaigns, schedule them on a random basis on specific days and times and the plug-in does the rest. This plug-in will post either ArticleBase articles or RSS feeds based upon categories or keywords. It’s your choice. With either product you can setup as many campaigns as you want for as many blogs as you create.- Getting Your Affiliate Credentials: Before you can monetize your autoblogs you need to get the credentials for each of companies you want to represent. Becoming an affiliate is easy to do and it’s free. Once you’ve done this you can use these credentials on all of your autoblogs.
Monetizing Your Autoblog: In this step you need to decide to what degree you want to create an income stream from each blog. There are numerous ways to monetize an autoblog. Some are free and others cost a couple of dollars. I personally use an assortment of products and plug-ins for this process. In Step 2 I mentioned Autoblog Samurai. It will automatically post Amazon and Clickbank products to your blog. Another plug-in that works well is WP Amazon. This is a free plug-in that provides you with a way to add a wide range of widgets to the sidebar of your autoblog. Once setup it runs automatically. You can add a Search function or even a Carousel to showcase a wide range of Amazon products on a moving carousel. Kind of cool…and free. Finally is you are really looking to make your site an income producing store I would suggest a product like WPShopBuilder. This plug-in provides you with a means to create an actual Amazon store containing as many shelves of products you want. All you need to do is decide upon your niche (i.e.sports), create a store with a shelf for each part of that niche (i.e. football, baseball, soccer etc.), add Amazon products for each shelf and then add them to your blog. In just a matter of minutes you can have an actual Amazon store selling products from one of the most trusted companies on the web. You can see examples of some of the autoblogs I’ve created at: http://www.thesoftwaremarketplace.com, http://www.thedietmegashop.com and http://www.thegolfmegashop.com. I am in the process of creating one autoblog just about every day. Once a clone is made you can actually delegate a great deal of this to your employees, making this an almost painless project and a great, sustaining business.- Monitoring Your Autoblogs: Nothing is automatic. Sure, you can set these up and walk away but you’ll never know if at some time a problem arises that causes your autoblog to stop functioning. I would suggest that you develop a system of maintenance that includes cloning your blogs on a periodic basis, checking them for functionality and making sure they are current. Things change in ever niche. New products are added, new concepts are developed. Don’t let your autoblogs become obsolete.
Autoblogging is another way to use the components of the Internet Trifecta to establish a secure online business. The cost is minimal, the time to install and setup is short and the rewards over time can be substantial. Interested, give it a try.
